Three Ingredient Happy Hour: The Black Friday

Happy Black Friday, my babies, and welcome back to 3-Ingredient Happy Hour, the weekly drink column featuring super simple yet delicious libations. You have, by now, made it through Thanksgiving dinner and for that, you deserve a drink.

I don’t usually participate in the capitalist hellscape that is (offline) Black Friday shopping, as it involves getting up early and crowds, both of which I hate. Just the thought of it makes me crave both caffeine and booze, which is what you will find in today’s offering.

This beverage, which I have dubbed “The Black Friday,” is a play on the caffe corretto, an Italian beverage consisting of espresso and a little bit of liquor, such as grappa, sambuca, or—as we have here—Fernet-Branca. I’m not the hugest fan of warm cocktails, so I swapped the espresso for cold brew—it has more caffeine anyway—and added a bit of simple syrup to temper Fernet’s bracing nature.

To make this invigorating, but still very chill beverage, you will need:

  • 3 ounces cold brew coffee
  • 1 ounce Fernet Branca
  • 2 teaspoons simple syrup

Combine everything together in shaker filled with ice and shake until chilled and frothy. Strain into a lowball over a giant cube, and sip until you feel like tackling your unique Black Friday challenges, be they angry crowds, in-laws, or a mountain of leftovers.
