A Texas mother has been charged with capital murder in the brutal fatal stabbing of her 4-year-old daughter.
Laquita Lewis, 34, was texting family members that she had done “something bad” to her daughter, Fredricka Allen, while being taken to a hospital following a car crash Sunday, KTRK-TV reported.
“She’s in heaven,” Lewis admitted to the child’s father after the killing, according to the Houston Chronicle.
He then called the police, who found Fredricka’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood in her Houston home. She was stabbed multiple times in the chest, Harris County prosecutors said.
Lewis abandoned the child, leaving her for dead in the home, and drove away in her car, prosecutors said.
She got into a car crash on Interstate 10 and was then transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she started texting family members about the grisly murder.
A motivation for the slaying wasn’t immediately clear.
Authorities said she had engaged in a domestic dispute with her boyfriend earlier in the day.
In November, Lewis was charged with threatening her 16-year-old son with a knife. She was sentenced to 15 months of probation, according to KTRK.
Lewis is being held without bail at Harris County Jail. She faces life in prison or the death penalty, if convicted, the Houston Chronicle reported.
Fredricka’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for her burial expenses.
