A Panthers fan standing in the nosebleed section during Thursday night’s game against the Eagles in Charlotte drew blood after he sucker punched another man in the face during a heated argument.
In a video published to Instagram, the Carolina fan, wearing a black Cam Newton jersey, turns to face the seated man, who is confronting him about blocking his view of the field, according to the post’s caption.
The Newton fan then strikes the older man with a righthanded jab square to his face, prompting others to intervene. The offender throws three more punches, but the flailing hands and arms lessen the impact.
The attacker soon forces his female friend away from her quarrel as the two make their way toward the exit, leaving the man as blood drips down his face and stains his white T-shirt.
An Instagram user identified as Warren C shared the video and explained what led to the fight.
“dude bro & his chicka were standing for the entire game,” says the caption, which has been edited to exclude profanities. “words gradually got more and more escalated. there previously was a single mom and her son between us, they left halfway through the 3rd. after that, the lid was off. the dude took offense to the couple never sitting down and obstructing his view. the victim telling the dude bro how they’re being jerks and how rude they are for not sitting. the dude bro turns around and calls the victim a “geriatric f–k”, “f—–,” and “hick”. then sucker punches him right in the face. i don’t know if he got away or left in handcuffs, but i hope it’s the latter.”
Warren C said in a comment that the victim was also a Panthers fan and that team allegiances did not factor into the incident.
The NFL on Friday said it has been in contact with Panthers security regarding the altercation.
“We take all of these very seriously,” the league said, according to NFL Network.
The Panthers lost to the Eagles, 28-23, falling to 4-2 on the season.
