SAN ANTONIO — Ninety minutes before tip for Game 3 on Saturday night, Mike Brown said the Warriors will “most likely” start JaVale McGee for the injured Zaza Pachulia.
The only thing that would force the Warriors to shift, Brown said, would be the Spurs changing up their starting lineup and going smaller, instead of trotting out their usual Pau Gasol, LaMarcus Aldridge frontline.
McGee has only played 15 combined minutes in the first two games, not finding a ton of success. But with Pachulia out, he’s likely to get a bump in usage.
This season, McGee started 10 games in Pachulia’s absence. In total, McGee joined the All-Star four-some of Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green for 126 minutes this season. In them, they outscored opponents by 96 points.
The group had an offensive rating of 124.4, a defensive rating of 92.2 and a net rating of plus-32.2, the best of any high-usage lineup (at least 100 minutes) in the league.
They’ve only played eight minutes together in the playoffs, only outscoring opponents 23-22.
